UPDATE ON THE MAGIC HOUR -- Financing for The Magic Hour fell through last summer, so the project's been put on hold. In the meantime, work is underway on a new project entitled Impossible Universe. Stay tuned for more information on that.
The feature-length screenplay for From the Ashes, written by Lee Shapiro and Stephen Wise, was one of 12 finalists for the Creative Screenwriting Magazine's 2005 AAA Screenplay Contest. This is now the second screenplay by this writing team to make it to the finalists in a screenplay contest hosted by a major writing magazine. Sinkhole placed in the top 10 in the 2001 Writer's Digest Screenplay Contest.
The Imagination Foundry is currently in preproduction on its first feature film entitled The Magic Hour. Funding is in place and initial casting and crewing has begun. Among the cast is Cole Evan Weiss, one of the young stars of The Sandlot 2, as well as Jennifer Fishbeck and Tina Sacco, both of whom appeared in "From the Ashes." Tracy Frenkel is our Casting Director. We are also lucky to have on board Stephen Campbell as Director of Photography. Stephen has worked on such films as Monster, The Punisher, First of May, and the upcoming Alterered by the guys who made The Blair Witch Project, Lonely Hearts with John Travolta, and The Reaping with Hilary Swank (now shooting). Lee Shapiro will be editing. Clark Van Hoten is producing with Susan Frost as the Executive Producer. Stephen Wise is directing the script he co-wrote with Joe Weckerle. "From the Ashes" was shown at the Putnam County Film Festival in New York on Sunday, November 6, 2004.
"From the Ashes " won the audience award at the Short Film Slam on October 17, 2004.
"Crooks" won the audience award at the Short Film Slam on October 10, 2004.
All three short films directed by Stephen Wise were screened at the Short Film Slam conducted by the Downtown Arts Media Center on the following dates:
"Crooks" was shown at the Melbourne Independent Film Festival in Melbourne, FL on Saturday, September 11 at the Premiere Theaters Oaks Stadium 10. Audience reaction was very positive. The celebrity guest of honor was James Best, known from his role on "The Dukes of Hazzard." To see pictures from the festival, click here.
"Crooks" was broadcast as a portion of an episode on the television series "Comedy Night School" on Saturday, July 24, 2004, and was re-run again on Saturday, September 18. It played locally on Channel 6 WKMG.
A screening was held at the Downtown Arts Media Center on Sunday, June 13, 2004 of the three short films directed by Stephen Wise. Click here to see pictures from the event.
The short film "Crooks" won five awards at the 2004 O-36 short film competition, including Best in Show, Best Director (Stephen Wise), Best Actor (Lee Shapiro), Best Use of Genre, and Best Use of Dialogue. Contest entrants were to create a film under 7 minutes in 36 hours and were given the genre, a line of dialogue, and a prop on the morning production was to begin.
